I Love My Job!
I am thrilled to have the position of Archaeological Intern with the Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat, Government of Prince Edward Island.
Finding work in one’s field is difficult for many recent graduates to find. So I am very grateful to have this opportunity. It is rewarding and fulfilling to be able to combine my education, skills, and interests in a challenging new environment.
I received a BA Honours degree in History, with a double major in English from the University of Prince Edward Island and have since worked hard at finding job experiences related to my field.
My fascination with Archaeology goes back to my Grade 5 Science Fair Project titled “A Step Back in Time” where I created a plaster replica of “the world’s oldest human footprint”, covered it with sand, re-enacted the discovery and discussed archaeological hypotheses surrounding this finding. My interest in archaeology stuck with me. What also stuck with me was how people who viewed my project also found it interesting and “really cool”! Maybe I will be able to elicit a similar reaction from people through this Journal.
By sharing my experiences as an Archaeological Intern over the next few months, I hope to be able to:
-Help raise the profile of Archaeology on Prince Edward Island
-Engage and develop interest in Archaeology on PEI
- Raise awareness of local archaeological projects
-Create a forum for discussion
If you’ve never had the opportunity to work in your field, don’t give up the search, dream jobs do come true!
